| A bit of history. I came to Granada,
Spain in the fall of 1989 dreaming of becoming a guitar maker. I had learned
to play a little and had fallen in love with the instrument. Having heard
that Granada was perhaps the most important centre in the world for the
spanish guitar I scraped some money together and made the trip. I was quite
lucky because these days I don't think there is anyone interested in teaching
outsiders the secrets of the spanish guitar, even then it was very difficult.
José Angel Chacón Tenllado and Jonathan Hinves were especially
helpful at the beginning. Antonio Marin too was very quick with advice,
some seasoned wood and the odd loan of a tool. Even
so, without the ongoing guidance of Rolf Eichinger I would never have become
a professional guitar maker. |
